Early Life

Derrin Owens' pioneer ancestors helped settle Juab and Millard counties. The Owens family was eventually sent to eastern Arizona to help establish townships in the White Mountains. After extreme forest management practices were carried out, his parents purchased a ranch in Sanpete County in 1984. Owens returned from an LDS mission in Chicago in late 1986. He has been a Sanpete resident ever since.

Owens played football for Snow College in 1987. While there, he met his wife Heather in 1988. They were married in 1989. Heather and Derrin then moved to Cedar City where he graduated in the first class from SOUTHERN UTAH UNIVERSITY, previously Southern Utah State College.
