Known as Coach Owens to many, his accomplishments included eight state runner-up track & field teams and two state championship teams coupled with a “Utah Track Coach of The Year” award. After eight years in the classroom, he earned a Master’s degree in education and school counseling. Representative Owens serves House District 58 covering east Juab County and all of Sanpete county. He and his wife Heather have four sons and one daughter. Two of his sons serve in the US military. The Owens family was eventually sent to eastern Arizona to help establish townships in the White Mountains. After extreme forest management practices were carried out, his parents purchased a ranch in Sanpete County in 1984. Owens returned from an LDS mission in Chicago in late 1986. He has been a Sanpete resident ever since. Owens played football for Snow College in 1987. While there, he met his wife Heather in 1988. They were married in 1989.
